Advanced Research in Academic Writing
Project Description: I would like to invite undergraduates to work with me on two books, trying out the instructional material, conducting writing projects that can be used as illustration of instructional materials, providing their own commentary on academic writing that will be part of the books, and suggesting revisions to the book manuscripts.
Student Roles/Responsibilities: Conduct research projects; reading instructional material; suggesting revisions to instructional material; meeting weekly with the professor.
Minimum Qualifications: Successful completion of WRT 205. Students interested in writing, research, and publishing, regardless of their academic major, are eligible. Successful research assistants need not already be accomplished writers-- just motivated ones.
Benefit: Improved writing skills; improved understanding of writing for college; familiarity with the publishing process; familiarity with principles of education related to textbooks. Students involved with this project have the opportunity to substantially affect how academic writing is taught to college students nationwide.
